Clutch possibly gone?GUTTED
« on: 04 August 2012, 09:34 »
Right,so the past few days ive been driving i have felt this kind click when pressing down the cluth pedal.Pulled into a garage yesterday to get some new rubber fitted to a set of rims and it finaly went completly. The pedal stayed to the floor   Thinking the clutch had gone. Then found out that the clip that retains the cable on to the lifter arm had come off as it had worn out, managed to fabricate another to do the job but when i tryed to drive off again the pedal clicked again and just went loose.Could this just be a problem with the cable and way it adjusts?

These have the auto adjuster ratchet on the gearbox side, its inside that rubber boot on the cable,  if these get pulled tight, they often lock up, or refuse to adjust,  when it comes new, there is a plastic clip that keeps it done up, then you fit and release and it will find its position, so i would have said when the clip came out, it pulled the ratchet tight and now its either stayed tight, or not correctly adjusting.

You can try removing the cable from the box side, then using the clip that comes on the adjuster, if its still there, lock the adjuster up tight, then refit, and release, then pump the pedal a few times, it should adjust,  but i recon that clicking you hear is the adjuster slipping or locking.

there is a ratchet that sits on the clutch release arm and these commonly snap, remove the green cap on the gearbox side and take the arm out.

they also do snap where there hidden so remove is usually needed to check

and finally replace the cable as they never seem to be right after being fully adjusted
