lowered too much?
« on: 02 August 2012, 18:49 »
hi folks, since my golf isnt on the road yet id thought i have a play with the coilovers so today i wound it down to the lowest it could go, as i was getting close to the lowest setting i noticed that the spring in the coilover had become loose, is this normal? i would think when the car was off the jacks the weight of the vehicle would compress the spring so the spring wouldnt be loose anymore

cheers and heres a quick pic

You usually have thinner helper springs to take up the slack but if its right low it can still move about. The main concern with having it really low is the drivesafts hitting the chassis legs when you go over bumps. I can't put my AP's right down because of this issue and don't want to notch the chassis. Brought them down another  1cm today lol, thats as far as I can go but can only just get my finger between the arch and the wheel, and I have wee fingers

I give you a month before you ruin your wheels

It wouldn't take much of a pothole to buckle one of those lips :undecided:
