the golf is a heavy car with a turbo charged engine therefore it will drink it .when looking for a car with good mpg you always go for a diesel.i would get bored stiff watching the mpg gauge and the fuel light ,mine is driven hard and as its been modded it drinks it even more .i bought it for fun ,i have a van for work and evo for extra fun

Dom069 thanks for your typical reply mate. Guesing new guys can't ask any question in your eyes??

Can you explain what you mean by the first part of this, and how you came to the conclusion in the second part? ^^

My reply was based on the logic that if you're concerned about fuel consumption you will buy an economic car. This is usually a diesel, hence my question.

If u read my post properly mate it says I've come over from a diesel vec so why would I want to buy another diesel.
I was just curious  about the mph of these cars that's why I was asking the questions I asked.i new I would get the usual "why have u got a turbo petrol" answer off some body and you just happened to be the first, that's all that I Ment by my post.
There's hundreds of posts on here via the search button asking about mpg and how to improve it so why couldn't I ask the question aswell but in a different way.
I.E is there any mods to help me out with my mpg?
Most people in this country winge about the extortionate price of petrol so having good mpg is the second think on my mind besides having a nice looking/performing car.

I feel your pain.

Because the answer will always be the same!

So surely a PD130 or PD150 is the best of both worlds?

To be fair last night i renewed my Thermo & Temp sender and my MPG is amazing, for example, I drove home today 8 miles and pushed the car quiet hard (when i could and it was safe) to be honest I really wasnt paying attenion to my fuel/mpg the reason behind this is because before i replaced my therm/temp if I pushed the car hard e.g took gears to 4-5 RPM then when i stopped at the lights I found my tick over was all over the place, lumpy idel and the car would sometime struggle to not cut out, but today I got none of that and while sitting at the lights twice, im not even joking I thought id cut out because my car was so quiet and smooth running :) anyho the point to this story is when I got home I checked my MPG and it was sat on 32MPG even after a hard drive, and my engine is on 118k, however shes well looked after, recently hard a Full major service inc Belt/Water pump, thermo, temp sender, new plugs, new filters, new oil, new coolent, new DV, New MAF:)

I should also mention Im using a pippercros pannel filter but without the smooth air box.

Hope this helps

If I'm 100% honest mate the only reason I didn't get a pd130/50 or a vrs pd was the price of the actual cars themselves lol.
Only had a 2k budget so setled for my 1.8T.
Guessing I'll just have to live with my petrol mpg decision and get on with it now haha.
