Mpg mod question?
« on: 31 July 2012, 21:02 »
Are there any mods you can do to help out the mpg on cars??
Is there an Eco map available for the 1.8T wich ups the power slightly but helps the mpg out more?I nearly got one for my last car but that was a diesel vectra Sri lol.
Will an induction kit affect mpg more than a panel filter with smoothed box?

Sorry for all the questions but thort I would try get them all answered on the same thread.

Why buy a 1.8T if your bothered about fuel consumption? Just buy a diesel.

Eco maps dont really work.  You tend to end up driving the car harder to go anywhere.

Economy is a nice by-product of power

Biggest and cheapest thing you can do is learn to drive economically i.e. brake gently, plan ahead, be in the right gear etc etc

Pushing the car everywhere will see your fuel tank always full.

Joking aside, as said, anticipating whats ahead and breaking as little as possible helps a lot. E.g. rolling to a stop using gears etc.

Have to agree  :lipsrsealed: Even if you manage to get 30 mpg its one hell of a tedious drive which completely rules out the point getting a 1.8t imo  :undecided:

If your needing mpg buy a diesel and remap it and have the best of both worlds  :nerd:

Start with the stuff that affect the drive drain.  crap tyres, low tyre pressures, worn suspension parts, tracking, etc etc will all contribute to poor mpg.

Also is your engine healthy??  If its working harder than it needs too then mpg will be affected.  A remap is not always the answer.

Remapping a unhealthy car will just give you headaches and lead to more expense.

Start with a fit and healthy car and improve your driving technique and go from there

Dom069 thanks for your typical reply mate. Guesing new guys can't ask any question in your eyes??

Can you explain what you mean by the first part of this, and how you came to the conclusion in the second part? ^^

My reply was based on the logic that if you're concerned about fuel consumption you will buy an economic car. This is usually a diesel, hence my question.
