Sad face!
« on: 31 July 2012, 00:38 »
Hey guys. Bad news! Dude to unforeseen circumstances I need a new car! Rather not go into it but its in the scrappy in the sky :( Any who I hate to be "that guy" and I know you all have heard it all before but it would be a massive help if you guys could suggest what I should buy next? I'm looking to upgrade a little. I do about 50 miles a day so I need something fairly economical, I am 19 so I cant have anything too powerful otherwise insurance companies will empty my wallet or laugh me out of the building, but not so slow I don't enjoy it. Preferably looking for something around the mk4 age, Be that Bora or Golf I don't mind but I was wondering what people would suggest?

Sorry to be a pain! And thanks in advance,
Lanf.

Hey bud,
It defo depends on your budget. Your saying u want a mk4 age but abit of advice stay away from the 1.4/1.6 there known for there choc gear boxes. And when it comes to the GTI's the 2.0 is crap.

For good fuel and to keep insurence as low as poss id be looking at a TDI or GT TDI the TDI's are around 80bhp but the GT TDI's are 115/140/170 bhp (i think)

But like i said you need to set how much you wanna spend on a car and then look at how much u wanna/can afford on insurence. Then you can set your benchmark for what car to get.

Hope this helps :)

Hey bro, It's hard to say really but it should be somewhere between 1000 to 1500 unfortunately. And about the same for insurance really. What would you do in my situation? Ive been loking at 110 golfs and 110 boras and they are fairly equal. well they are pretty much the same car lol!

They are to be fair, think of a bora as the saloon golf with diff headlights.
With your budget id be looking at stuff like lupos/polos you could get like a 1.2 petrol then keeping your insurence low :) otherwise if its a golf u want, go for a TDI.

Hope this helps

if your looking at mk4 and have about £1400-£1500 speare then just get yourself a 1.8T, did a qoute for my cousin and came up at about £1000 and hes 20, no no claims discount, no claims, 2 yrs driving experience.

contrary to popular belief the bigger the car the cheaper. i worked for Directline and Churchill, i found that if you buy those Corsas  Saxos  KA  Fiestas ...anything that a young driver would go for then you'll be paying through the roof, Mk4 Golf 1.6 for a 18 yr old was qouted £2800, same kid i qouted for an Audi A5 3.0 y Plate, out of curiosity came up with a qoute of £1200, the reason being is that insurance companies for under 21's have an automated system that is based on your age and driving experience in yrs first before taking into account the area you live in, mileage, occupation etc etc

best way to be sure though if your not convinced is have autotrader up and compare the market plus any insurance companies that aren't on compare websites and also give skyinsurance a go, their link is on the insurance section, i was qouted quite good by them  :nerd:
