Window has dropped - Regulator questions
« on: 25 July 2012, 18:49 »
So after 13 years one of the windows on my mk4 has FINALLY dropped.  Front passenger side to be exact.

I've stripped the door down and propped the window up.  As well as the plastic clips being broken the cabling that connects to the motor is completely chewed to pieces as well, so am looking to replace the regulator.

Question.  The regulator is help onto the inner door fram thing by 4 rivets, which I will have to drill out.  How should I fix the new regulator back on. Can I just get 4 nuts and bolts and do it that way?  Or do I need to get a rivet gun?

You would prob need to rivet them on because I would think a bolt mite get in the way of the window

when I bought my kit it had the white part that the cables wind round, cables and clips in the box. It was about £36

If you get the same kit they are easy enough to do, the lobes that the cable runs round have eccentric parts on there that allow you fit the cable without needing much tension. As soon as you test it the cables pop onto the runners.

The part you've put up does seem like a bargain with discount though, just remember you'll have to drill out the speaker and rivet it back on

also don't waste time trying to get the black part back that links to the door module on to the panel, it doesn't need to be fitted again

Yeah, no idea why the door module is connected with plastic, no need to be!

I'm going to ring ECP tomorrow to check it's the whole thing.  If so for £42 I'll get it.  Ordered a rivet gun for £3.50 from eBay.

Deciding whether to upgrade the speakers or leave e alone

repair kit will be what I described, no panel. Just takes a bit longer to fit

Whilst at it, any idea if replacement speakers for the mk4 need to be full range, or composites?

standard ones are low/mid pass as you have the tweeter up high
