Modifying a leased car...
« on: 23 July 2012, 20:54 »
My cars a company car, leased through Lex Autolease. Does anyone happen to know the legalities regarding modifying a car obtained through them or any lease company for that matter?

I could phone them up and ask but I'll end up with hector the motor inspector chopping at my door in a few months time...

I fancy a remap to my GTD as my previous car was an A3 2.0tdi 170, and remapped was much better to drive and actually gave me a better mpg return.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I have a leased Leon FR derv and have wondered the same thing, my ideal scenario was a tuning box like Bluefin but not sure they do one for our engine.

As you say I'm not sure of the legalities of doing it without permission as technically it's not your car to mess with.

Read the small print of your agreement

I think there was a chap with a Seat Leon who got found out, had the car taken off him and still had to pay the balance of the finance.

If you buy a car on finance that technically isn't your car either though and they are widely modified. The bank own it until you pay off the loan, I think... :s

Wishful thinking here perhaps :(

Yeh that's right for HP, not if you have a personal unsecured loan.

My gut tells me is a no no, its whether you feel brave enough to take the risk of the engine/gearbox going pop and them finding out you had modified it and hit you up with the bill as the lease is void.

Te other side is whether your company insurance covers modified cars, as that's another disaster waiting to happen if you were unfortunate enough to be involved in a serious accident.

All worst case scenarios and probably a bit ott, but you get the idea.

Lex aren't very friendly when it comes to modifications. We use them for our cars and they argued over hands free kits even if fitted by the main dealer. Lookers used to allow modifications as long as it was done by an authorised dealer. And the modification had to stay when the car went back
