Hi there all,

The weekend i am going to try and solve my 5000rpm limiter issue i have, i have read up about the causes and i am hoping that it is just the Rotor arm out or the hall sender,

so am i right in saying i have to take the cambelt covers off, put the car at TDC, take green cap off gearbox to back sure the flywheel is correct then take the dizzy off and line the rotor arm up? or is there more to it than that? as i have read that TDC is done of Piston no1 on these engines? how do i tell if i have piston1 at TDC lol?

Many Thanks

Basically you want to put a long thin screwdriver down piston number one and turn the engine by hand until it reaches its highest point. The marks on the camshaft pulley and flywheel should then line up. Then take the distributor cap off and you will see a grooved mark on the distributor that the rotor arm must line up with. if it doesn't then slacken off the 13mm bolt and turn the distributor until it does then put it back together and give it a try.

Just in the middle of doing this now, are there any marks on the cam pully that need to line up? Also is piston1 closet to airbox drivers side or gearbox side lol

Yes piston number one is closest to airbox. There should be a mark on the cam pulley and an arrow on the side of the cam cover that line up.

Also I can't see the 13mm nut to undo to adjust the dizzy? There's one holding a big black thing down under the dizzy lol

you need to hook up vagcom and see if its got any faults logged to do with the hall sender. it might just need a quick twist of the dizzy, you need to be watching the measuring blocks in vagcom to see when you're in the right spot. i think its measuring block 7

There is a V shaped clamp with a 13mm bolt at the base of the distributors, slacken it and it should move. I set mine without using vagcom, just a code reader showing hall sensor fault although it will never be exact and you really need it set to the correct values. Why do you believe it out of tolerance anyway? has it had a recent cam belt?
