BOV
« on: 13 July 2012, 15:32 »
Ive read on vagtech.com that if I am looking to up the power through a remap that they recommend that I replace to standard BOV with the forge upgraded version.

Ive found one on ebay for half the cost of the original price and wondering whether this is  worth while mod or whether this will be a full on dump valve?  I dont mind a little more noise but dont want some horrible dump valve noise you hear on some motors.

the diverter valves on pre may 2009 tsi engine cars were the diaphragm variety (rev G) and prone to splitting on mapped cars, the revision D overcame this, there is now a new version for tsi cars this from this year (can also fit the KO4) which JKM highlighted on their fb page, that said the dv on wifes car is fine and done 50k now and its mapped

new one on left rev d on the right

forge one needs servicing every 5k and given its location on the ihi tai of underneath is a pain in the a$$

depending on age and mileage may be wise to change it as a precaution to a later oem one, maybe worth giving jkm a call

So I take it on my 09 plate with 29k on the clock it will be the one on the left that I currently have fitted?

you may have the rev d on the right which is fine, the one on the left is the new one

this is my rev G from the scirocco when it split

ironically revo diagnosed a boost leak on data logging on stage 1 (as rocco was going to go stage 2), VW dealer said no boost leak and were then sent this picture given they could not be bothered to remove it and look

Mines a 06F 145 710G like your scirocco one, my GTI was built week 7 2010 , has 8000 miles on and I'm 95% sure mines split.(see my oil leak thread)

What's the new new revised versions number as I will tell them when mine goes in if its that fit the new version.

Hey Guys

Im not sure this D revision is all its cracked up to be...I have a MK5 GTI and went from a C revision which split on stock levels to a D revision for a stage 1 remap.

I have since bought a G revision and this holds boost better than a D. The D revision can leak as there cant be a great seal between plastic and metal...and smoke tests have shown new valves to leak.

This has also been confirmed with logs of N75 waste gate actuator having to work harder to achieve the same boost levels, reducing efficiency when compared with the G revision valve.

The VW dealer I spoke to said the only difference between the older Diaphragm valves and the G revision was manufacturer and if someone with a MK6 GTI came in looking for a part the system would highlight the G valve as the correct part.

I dont know how much this G valve will last before it possibly splits so I am going to relocate my Diveter valve into the position used in the ED30/S3/GOLF R which is at the front of the car which will provide two benefits:

  • Move the valve further away from the heat source of the Turbo.
  • If the valve splits again, its 3 bolts to remove accessible from opening the bonnet rather than a ramp job and awkward removal off the turbo or labour charges at a garage.
