As title really.Ive had it a handful of times over the past 3 months but last night was proper nasty!
Just as im falling asleep i seem to stop breathing and wake up with a jolt gasping for air and the old hearts going like the clappers!
Scared the crap out of me if im honest as it must have happened 20 times or more,to such a point i didnt want to even attempt to go to sleep,as such i never got any shut eye till 4:30am this morning.

After a bit of googling it seems it might be sleep apnea.Im not one for going to the doctors EVER but it bothered me that much i rang up but cant get an appointment until 11:00am wednesday.

So in the meantime, any tips to stop me dying lots tonight?

I used to get that a lot after a heavy "recreational" weekend many many years ago but this is very different to that.
Thanks for the input though.

I get this every time I sleep on my back.

Try sleeping in the recovery position tonight.

Do you sleep with your chin to your chest or looking up?

Yeah, that usually constricts your airways.  Could always try looking up.  It actually works while you're awake too if you want to check the difference.

Keep an eye on the missus too... She sounds like she's trying to kill you in your sleep.

Ive seen some people have to wear them gimp mask things which i refuse to do.I will knock my own up using my compressor and a dust mask i reckon.

Sounds like heart palpitations...... I used to get the exact same thing.

If I was really over tied and not been looking after myself, this is when it would occur most. Like your good self it was always just as I was falling off to sleep.

In my 20's in the days of going clubbing to the early hours I would get this quite a lot in the week when it all catches up on you.

Don’t drink or cut right down on coffee. I’ve switched to girlie green tea’s.

It does scare the crap out of you. I used to jump out of bed and beat my heart like it was going to stop or something.
