The 02a is a better (stronger?) Potentially less mileage gearbox from the mk3 golf. A big improvement. It also has a hydraulic clutch rather than the mk2 cable one, its a bit of work fitting it all but well worth it,as is the box itself. It also will take a 16v or 20vt engine no problem. I paid £200 for my gearbox, pedal box, and hydro clutch setup, an extra £110 for a sachs sporting VR6 clutch, and fitted it myself. No crunches etc, 100 odd thousand mile box, but not so much as a whisper from it. However to do it all easily the engine will come out too, so to go to the extra trouble I'd chuck in the abf engine with it, though I do understand its then a snowballing quite major transplant. I did it bit by bit as things broke, so easy for me to say looking back. For pure ease a straight swap 8v to 8v box would be best, but for bang per buck and value for money a £500 mk3 donor car and a few days labour is very hard to beat when your pulling it apart anyway
