a rattel can Q
« on: 12 July 2012, 15:41 »
oks i ve decided to spray my 4Mo splitter, as its textured and its been thought the wars i am sanding it that using filler primer then sanding that then primmer then paint etc but just got a q or two.

are all Filler Primer Spray Paint yellow or can you get them in a different colour?

is wet and dry the best sandpaper to use to smooth the bumpers texture off ?

and whats a good but cheapish bumper/spiltter filler as there are some bad scrapes and a bit of damage towards the wheels?

Thanks
mike

I use a White high build primor. Ain't that the point so you don't have to sand the splitter?

Spray on, sand flat. might need two coats.

I'm no expert by any measure but I wouldn't use filler on a splitter. One knock and it will crack. Can't you get a two pack plastic type stuff? Or is that what you mean?

There are numerous ways to do this, but I'd do it this way.

Don't use 80 grit on plastic. Use 120 grit for reducing the the appearance of the texture. You get proper bumper filler, such as BMC (it's grey/black fibrous stuff) that will actually stick to the bumper. Normal body filler will too if your doing it rough but won't stand up to much abuse before cracking and falling out. BMC or similar has flex properties like the original substrate so imo better bet.

You might want to apply a surfacer to it to promote adhesion. High build primer comes in variety of colours, grey/ yellow being common. You can get it tinted though for ease of cover up. If your painting it black, grey h/b primer and black has excellent coverage properties.  Rattle cans are ok if you don't have equipment but it'll never be as good as 2k.

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.
