PS3 headset recommendations ?
« on: 10 July 2012, 23:27 »
Anyone recommend a PS3 headset ? After one for my 12yo. I'm not after spending £150 on a set but don't want to spend £25 if they are sh@t (buy cheap, buy twice as they say) and would spend up to £80 if it was worth it.

Also, wireless or wired ?

So far the PS3 ones are winning, anyone have any experience of these ?  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-PS3/dp/B005H59GM6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341958974&sr=8-1
......now officially dubless.

No experience of those ones but I've owned some wireless turtle beach x41's for over a year now, for use with xbox but they also market ps3 versions.

Good thing is that I have no cables to worry about, plus headphones allow you to pinpoint sounds much better. Bad thing is they run on 2.4ghz which is the same frequency as your wireless router. My headphones base unit is 5 meters away from the router but I get wifi dropouts because of interference caused by the headphones base unit when switched on. Must remember to switch off base unit when not in use. This doesn't effect audio quality though...

In fact the only audio issue is a constant low-level hiss, apparently common in wireless units, but you only notice it at menus etc when there's little audio playback.

Also, batteries can run out of juice at the most annoying times!

So... Wireless good, but not without it's problems.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I was thinking abou the tritton ones but then the official sony one was about to be released so I hung back. I bought my sony ones from ebay america where a chap was selling them for £60 incl international delivery. Didn't have any issues.

They work fine and the battery lasts several (about 10) hours without recharging. These also recharge if you plug them in. I bought a USB extension cable and means I can play and charge the headset simultaneously.

The mic is on a plastic stalk and I always worry about it breaking off but it still hasn't. The build quality isn't anything special but again I've not had any issues.
