v heavy clutch

i own a 1997 2.0 gti v clean car well looked after only 36000 on it but have recently noticed the clutch has became very heavy any body any ideas to what may be causing this

I quite like a more solid, heavy cluch with a high biting point! But mine has always been alot heavier than anyother cars i have driven. I presumed all VeeDubs were like this. Certainly the ones i've driven have been!!!???

The pedal shouldn't be that heavy! i think the gti had a cable clutch, so try changing that first.

Not sure if this will be of any help, but...

My biting point is very high also, the clutch isn't that heavy \ stiff, but you only have to press it an inch or two to change gear.

Are these the signs of a golf traight, or jsut both of us having broken clutches?

If the biting point is high then the friction plate is worn, if the pedal is stiff then the cable or pressure plate are worn.

Indeed it is, the less meat on a clutch plate the higher the pedal, as you dont have to push it down as far to disengage it.
