Key Fob
« on: 30 June 2012, 16:49 »
Hi. I want to change the outer casing on my key fob (as it is held on by selotape at the mo :-\ ) My question is; is it just a matter of taking the casing of the new one and putting it around my 'gubbings' (changing the blade over of course) ?

How would I go about reprogramming it though? As I only have the 1 key :-\

So you can take out your old electronic panel and put it into the new one? Is that right?

Thats what I was wondering. The only thing is that I only have one key so it looks like it would have to be programmed via Vagcom?

Niceand simple buy a fob off ebay take apart current fob and swap over the gubbins which is simple but you will also need to remove the immo chip CAREFULLY i used side cutters and cut around it then super glued it into the new fob i only done this as i had 2 keys so if i knackered 1 it wasnt a huge deal

Hey all. Thanks for the advice. I bought a a fob from a breakers yard with someone elses transponder and key etc. I was wondering wether if I got a new blade cut for it there would be anyway of coding the transponder to start my car then I could tune it in to open via remote. I took it to a local key cutter today and he said that you can't code a new chip for it becuase my gti has the red 'I'. Don't know if this is right or not.  :-\
