Problem with cd player in mk3 :(
« on: 27 June 2012, 18:52 »
Hi all got a bit of a problem with my mk3 cd player.

Had aftermarket one in there but it's very basic ie no iPod connector or anything. Had an old rip speed one sitting in my mums car so wanted to swap them over.

Got it all plugged in ok but won't turn on? It was working fine in mums car few days go, changed fuse and no good. Plugged old one back in and worked fine again?

Looked in manual and said some VW/ Audi may need wiring up differently.

Noticed on other aftermarket one that there are a coupe of extra wires one with a fuse holder connected to it?

Im not sure how to wire this up properly so was wondering if anyone around Herts could do it? :D

Will pay of course lol

Thanks

You may need to swap the red and yellow wires over.  Double check the wiring on the headunit ISO and car harness ensuring the wires match.

Changing the red and yellow wires over would do nothing as the stereo would still work but would have no memory. Did the old stereo work before you removed it ??

Ye stereo worked as it was in my mums car, old stereo in mk3 worked and still works when I plug it back in. But it's rubbish and only has cd player so want to change it. But other one just won't turn on?

I'll try and get some pics of the wiring up later

it should then work

Wont make any differance as long as the red and yellow are connected the stereo will work but just without the memory. May sound a daft question but you have put a fuse in that fuse holder on the yellow wire haven't you ??

That's from the old one anyway, but ye I have but took it out and put it in new stereo to see if it was the fuse

The only other thing to check then Mate is that where the yellow and red wires from the stereo wiring loom connect to the red and yellow from the car meet it at the two connectors you plug in. I recently fitted a double din and could not understand why my sub would not work and it turned out the witing from the stereo and the wiring in the car were different. Have a look at this but this is the only thing left to check really. Then when you do get power to the stereo you may find you need to swap the yellow and red wires to keep some memory. Best of luck.
