Mk2 golf GTI - Best sounding exhaust.
« on: 21 June 2012, 21:04 »
Hi, ive got a mk2 golf gti, thinking about getting a new exhaust, but want a nice sounding one.
The one i have on at the moment is a twin pipe upsweep one which i like the look of but its too deep and 'Boy Racerish sounding', The only good thing about it, it pops and burbles all the time which i love about it.
So wanting a more raspy/Sporty sounding exhaust that pops and burbles.
Links of exhausts, videos, you name it, im interested.

An exhaust pipe is for the exhaust of gasses.

A stereo is for things that 'sound nice'.

A true petrol head would throw out the stereo and just listen to the sound of the  engine and nice exhaust

I have a standard 16v system with a magnex 6x4 oval on my abf mk2. Sounds good, quiet on tickover (marginally louder than standard), no boominess whatsoever on motorway/fixed throttle position, and bit of a bark under full throttle, though the airbox is the main sound at wot. Did have a scorpion dtm stainless backbox on there before, but wasn't too keen on the 80's dtm look. That was even quieter than the magnex though, again did what I wanted it to do (looks more than noise). My opinion is to keep a standard system, and go for a box with tailpipe style you like. A full system will be v loud, just like the local saxo's fiesta's and corsa's, with their 1 litre power.. My bro has a digi 8v, with a full system on, and man that's boomy on tickover, it rattles windows when he pulls up and is so bassy its annoying..

Jetex are also well rated, and do resonated/ non resonated kits, (think its just the 1st box they mean) but I've never heard or lived with one to judge the sound/db's

Standard is perfect, quiet sewing machine like when idling, sweet warble when on throttle, people who know recognise the sound... You can't make an 1800 sound like a V8, people still try

I have a jetex on my '60. A little heavy and it needed modifying to fit properly. But once all that is done, I would not have anything else.
