Looking to buy a GTI

Some people love them, some don't.

Get xenons.

Try an a3 2.0tfsi quattro sline, they don't do the silly bangy wheel spin thing. Also spoke to a few people who hav had both and think there a3 was quicker, not sure how that works though.

I am looking to change the Audi and want to keep in German, the Golf GTI seems a great replacement and i really like the look of the Mk6...I live up in Aberdeenshire and have had a 15 min test drive of a 09 plate 5 door but had no extras on it..
I like the Candy white, but deep black look nice aswell...

I have to say I have never noticed second hand values drop just because a new model has arrived.

I still got a very good price for my 5 year old MK5 GTI, a year after the MK6 had come out.

When the MK6 came out the prices of the MK5 dropped faster that they had done up to that point. I remember adding an article about what a bargain the MK5 was now the MK6 was out....


It's about supply and demand, who is going to pay good money for a car that has just been replaced with a newer, faster and better model?


Imagine the price of a nearly new MK6 when the MK7 comes out......

Jim i see your point, but it's the same old story what you get for your trade in when it comes to the deal...
At the end of the day the dealers will be lowering their price on the Mk6 to make room for the new Mk7 on the fore courts

Jim i see your point, but it's the same old story what you get for your trade in when it comes to the deal...

Yeah that is my point. I'm looking about at new cars just now and nothing really touches the Golf for me. I'd be looking at trading in my Mk6 for a MK6 GTD come September but just wondered if the prices would drop as the Mk7 might be nearer by then.

But I suppose my Mk6 would have went down in price by then as well so its all relative!!

A huge factor on the price of mk5 when the mk6 launched was that the price of every used car was at an all time low due to financial mess the car industry/country was in. Back then you could buy a year old mk5 tdi tdi match for £10500-£11,000 that car now in a mk6 same age is £16-17,000. Mk6 golfs have dropped a lot in the last 2-3 months as availability new and used has opened up a bit. Steve has first hand experience of this as in glasses guide in two months his has dropped near £900! I don't think the introduction of mk7 will have a huge impact on the price of used mk6 cars as at the moment used cars are quiet cheap to buy and the mk7 won't exactly be cheap. Today you can buy a mk6 tdi s 105 year old for £12500 a new mk7 s tdi 105 is going to be touching £19,000.

At the end of the day all cars depreciate hard, and the pain on your wallet increases the more you spend and the newer the car you buy. With Golfs so expensive now we are all going to end up having our pants pulled down by depreciation, just means you need to make sure you enjoy it during its ownership

Yes black is nice when all polished up but is a swine to keep looking tidy, it shows every imperfection...CW on the other hand I find much easier to keep looking nice, once you've got a few coats of wax on it your good to go...

I had a test drive of a S3 last year and yes it put a smile on your face...What am looking for is a nice VAG motor for around £22,000
with Leather & sensors in a 5 door....am looking to spend around £7,500
My Audi A3 Sportback Black Edition when i bought it 18month ago for £23,600 is now worth £13,500 am unwilling to spend too much as the new Mk7 is out soon and am sure the Mk6 will be in the same boat shortly

Yes but if someone has £15K to spend on a GTI they are still going to buy a three year old MK6, where are they going to get the other £10k from to buy the MK7. So why would the prices for the MK6 drop just because the MK7 is out.

The only reason I could see them dropping is due to people chopping the MK6 in for a MK7 so it becomes a buyers market for a while.

I can see it applies to 1 or 2 year old cars but then I suppose that would drop the prices for older cars ?? Hold on I have just argued with myself and lost
