Looking to buy a GTI
« on: 21 June 2012, 20:36 »
Hi folks,
Am looking to buy a Mk6 GTI in 5 door with leather & Parking sensors.
Which colour would look best and what is there to look out for?

I have an 09 Audi A3 Sportback Black Edition 1.8TFSI with Full Black heated leather front & Back, Sensors back & front, twin Sunroofs,Cruise Control, LED running Lights with Xenons, Bluetooth and remapped to 210bhp....

Would I be better off with keeping as for a GTI only a year newer the VW dealers are looking for £8500 to change!!!

Any Comments to push me towards a GTI would help ease the pain
Build Week 11.04.16 - 2016 Mk7 Golf R, Lapiz Blue 5 door manual, 12 months R/Tax, 2 yrs free service, full tank of fuel, sure guard, and private plate transfer

The GTI is great, but buying one just before the prices are soon to drop due to the impending MK7 isn't a good idea IMO.

You have a good spec A3 there. I'd hold off until the Mk7 appears.

MK7 GTI won't be out until next year, get the MK6 still great car and better than the A3 a mapped GTI should get 250BHP or get ED35 even better.

Tiguan quicker than the Golf

ED35 is a great car but I would say that  best colours for a GTI are Deep Black Pearl, Candy White or Carbon Grey. Do it as Mk7 GTI wont be out for a year in the UK.
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

Do prices generally come down on the models that are being phased out?
I can't remember the MK5 price reducing when  the Mk6 came out but maybe missed it.

I have to say I have never noticed second hand values drop just because a new model has arrived.

I still got a very good price for my 5 year old MK5 GTI, a year after the MK6 had come out.
Mk6 GTI 3dr | DSG | Tornado Red | 18" Monza 2 | LED Xenons | RNS510 | Bluetooth | Smoked LED tails | Cruise | Reversing Camera | TPMS | - now sold :(

+1 when I traded my ED30 in 2010.

Test drive the golf a LOT! Like an hour.

Some people love them, some don't.

Get xenons.

Try an a3 2.0tfsi quattro sline, they don't do the silly bangy wheel spin thing. Also spoke to a few people who hav had both and think there a3 was quicker, not sure how that works though.
