Right, long overdue in my opinion, but a very important, and emotive subject...
PLEASE, No b!tching, fighting, scratching, or rooking, this is a friendly 'point of view" discussion, in the best Mk2 section, on the best VW Forum anywhere on the net, lets not lower ourselves... any sign of any "Popcorn" and it gets pulled!

I have my own opinions, based on being in the Motortrade for many years, and have a broad knowledge and hands on experience of many different Marques of cars, where parts supply situation is a lot more difficult than MK2 Golfs, yet nowhere near as fraught!

Hopefully decent feedback, will allow buyers and sellers some sort of guide, to how much items are worth, and what to pay, which hopefully helps everyone out, maybe list items you've recently bought/sold and state whether you were happy with the price you paid, or sold at

Also parts that are genuinely rare, and not just Ebay rare!  VW Motorsport gear knobs, and Recaro's spring to mind as rare, and not a set of MK2 floormats...

  • VAG Parts SNOB!!!
Interesting thread... Lets see what happens  :undecided:

I've just bought this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130706932570

I've never seen one listed before and just had to have it... Paid £150.00 which includes shipping from Norway.

Also Bought a Genuine Hella US Spec tailgate spoiler with 3rd brake light... Paid £150.00 ish form a guy in the states from the Vortex Forum...

"Rare" can be a very subjective word when it comes to MK2 parts...

Some item are rare for a number of reason's....

1, They never sold when new due to the fact that they were rubbish when 1st released - but now are rare & just as useless....
2, Due to the lack of supply of certain items that get easily broken & then become desirable as people need them to finish a car to a certain standard...
3, Were a very expensive option when new (Like - Head Light Adjusters, Headlight Washers, Electric Sunroof Motor & Switch, Electric Mirrors etc).

Ebay rare is another matter completely....

Okay
I've been hoarding Rallye parts and one day I thought someone needs these Hell I'm not going to own another one!
Like today made a new friend gave him a brand new electric wing mirror for his Rallye never planned to, but we chatted for two hours drinking tea and had a good time comparing notes! No point in hoarding stuff that someone can use!
I actually don't price things up until I meet them. If I dont like them they arent going to like my prices. If they are earnest and take time to come and see me for the bits, I give good sh*it away
What goes around comes around Karma's a biatch at some point it sees you right for wrong!
I've gotten so many bits free from friends it should be returned back in some form?

i veiw a genuinly rare part as one that you can't buy  unless your really lucky.  usally the best you can hope for is being abel to borrow one to make a copy from  price of borrowing is usualy one of the copys.

thats said rallye windscreens are getting rare ish
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Triumph mk2 gt6 bits are rare, golf stuff is still out there.  This should be called I dont want to pay for stuff,  if you own a sweet rallye and the only thing that wrong with it is duff door panel £250 is cheap.  My golf is magic I do tip runs its take the dog out, but if I need a roof lining and it 300 and I have he money it's still cheap motoring. Buy a headlight for a modern car, you could rebuild your golf, with a recaro interior!
