Polo handles
« on: 14 June 2005, 16:38 »
Hi guys

Cars starting to take shape now since i was last on here, spent a few quid!
Got rid of the front quads for Angel eyes, crystal fogs and indicators, M3 rears, lower bumper air intakes, just a general tidy up really.
Just needing the 18s (17 Oz Titans not to my taste) a new bonnet and the front Kamie grill then in to be painted (Peugeot Diablo red I'm thinking)
Anyway i will get to the point.

How hard is it to fit the newer style polo handles, as my current ones have the horrible square plate where the lock is, the polo ones look alot more modern.
Any info regarding to how hard to do, where from, etc would be great.
Also anyone done the Lupo gti wiper arms and blades?
Is there a smoother looking rear wiper that would fit a Mk3?

Thanks guys and gals

the polo handles  you need are form the 6n (95-00) £17 + vat (ish) from euro car parts and are a striaght swap

The wipers Are about £23 + vat from ecp.

Not done either yet but both are on my list too.

don't know about the rear wiper cos of the shape. been keeping an eye out but not seen anything similar. gonna have a look round at Leeds at the end of the month.

What about the locks though and that mingin "security" plate?
Is it a cover that goes over the lock with a hole in it to clear the key hole?
Ive had a brief look and it looks and bast**d night mare to do.

the lock barrels should swap over. If you've got central locking you may aswell fit the rears off  the polo and delock it.

Not sure about the armour plate, mine has them too. I think they're stick on but you should be able to remove them providing they haven't been put on to cover an attempted break in, which is my worry. :undecided:

Ive heard that before, is that a weak spot on golfs, where as the thieving pikies attempt to get in by sticking a screw driver under the lock?
Hopefully that area under the plate has not been damaged.
I had a look in the Haynes manual last night and it seems the handles are pretty easy to get out and you shouldn't even need to take the inner door card off either.
My central locking is only working on the drivers door, the boot and passenger door are having none of it at the moment, Ive got an ex work mate that fits alarms, immobilizes, etc so i better get him to have a look at the locking before i delock it- i don't fancy unlocking the boot and getting in that way!!

I know the skoda fabia rear wiper is a popular swap on the mk4. Will it go on a mk3?

Dunno, i was thinking along those lines aswell. But most of what Ive seen on the newer models is the wiper arm is attached to the rear screen glass and not the boot lid like the mk3, and on the mk3 the washer jet is an integral part of the wiper arm which is another problem. :undecided:
