Regarding swaping out your rear beam for a MK3 item be aware if its a GTI item that come from a car with ABS its not gunna have rear load compensator and may have to modify it to work with the MK2 item already fitted, Also and im sure ill get hissed at for this but iv looked at the supposed "rear beam wide track" and after looking on the web theres alot of controversy As to whether the MK3 item is any wider so be interested if you could measure yours and the new 1 and post the measurements. Might be worth checking it cus if they are same no point swapping.

Wouldn't worry about load compensator, I scraped mine and no problems.

Wagwan!

thought id chuck some pics up of the progress, rear beam + driveshafts primed will hopefully get them painted black tomorrow if im not too late home from the gym  should hopefully get the subframe touched up to. I know its going on the underneath of the car but hey if i run someone over at least the have something pretty to look at

the rear beam wasnt really rusty as you can see in the 1st pic but i thought as its already off rude not to clean it up a bit and paint it!

Turned 24 at the weekend, my gf bought me a 3 drawer tool chest and socket set, and my parents / her parents got me some other sets. Hopefully got everything I need :afro: dont need to keep knicking my old mans now haha.

Also bought some 15" splits, plan is seperate them get the dishes powdercoated chrome, centres anthracite and new polished bolts. Hoping i can get bigger dishes for them but doubt it ...

Awesome I took mine off with a hack saw! the mk2 doesnt have one so shouldnt need to be there?  :undecided:

I would regard this as a particularly poor steer.

Without a compensator if you don't have any fat birds in the back, then the rears will lock before the fronts, which is NEVER a good look.

It's there for a reason and that reason ain't love.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Its been like it for years and I have no weight in the back and the rears don't lock before the fronts, I've had no scary braking issues! I'd say its more important side to side balance!

Sounds like you drive like a pussy then, nip.

Seriously - to be properly balanced front to back you need either a manual pressure reduction valve, or an automatic compensator.

Side to side balance should be there anyway, as the pressure from side to side should be the same at all times.
