I'm not having anything in the back of the car, seats etc how come the mk2 rear beam doesn't have a compensator?

What was it out of?  GTI?  The compensator should be mounted to the underside of the car, with a bracket on the rear beam, which operates the compensator, so it would never have been on the beam (same as a Golf3).

I know guys with tracked Golf2s who have static pressure reducer fittings in their brake lines AS WELL as an adjustable valve, because you need to reduce the force so much on the back of a 2WD G2, because it's so light.... and you're talking about taking more stuff out of the back of the car...

On my Syncro it's a different situation because when you brake the viscous coupling locks up, so it transfers the braking effort to the rear wheels, effectively.  Sounds odd, I know.  When I re-wired my braking circuits to single line to the rear I had to turn the pressure right down on my rear brakes to stop them blue-ing up and doing too much work within the overall braking system.

Brake balance front to back has a BIG effect on stability under retardation.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I drive like an old lady so should be alright

Hence the reason to have a compensator.  To get away without, you could always put the car back to standard and always roll on your own.

But the rear beam on my mk2 golf doesn't have a compensator? So why do I need to keep the one on the mk3 rear beam?

Didn't you read my response?

Unless the car started out as a 1.3 there would have been a compensator fitted.  They were fitted to everything over a 1.6 Driver IIRC.  If the brackets are there and the compensator has been removed that's some pikey old car MOT fix.

Yeah sorry DH mate I didnt see your reply when I posted mine had another look and the mk2 has a compensator, totally different design to the mk3 one tho, would you recommend swapping the mk2 compensator over to the mk3 beam? Didnt realise it would be so dangerous to run the car without one, but if my gf is gonna be going out in the car too i better have one fitted!!

Started stripping the paint off the rims, removed the bolts and got on with the nitromors, evil .. evil stuff

After tripping balls off nitromors fumes, and some scrubbing with wire wool the first one looks like this

Just got to decide on a colour for the centers now, was thinking neon pink with polished dishes but might play it safe and get them powdercoated black or white with gold bolts :? Any way should have checked over the alloys better when i picked them up as i noticed one of the has a cracked spoke  can this be repaired? Also does anyone know if i can get wider dishes for these alloys? they are 15x6.5J Enkei RS, have 40 bolt holes. Would prefer them with some bigger dish!

Gave all the plastic trims the heat gun treatment and then meguiars tyre gel brings them up so well they are really black again. Here is a pic of the front bumper with the new indicators!

Also the boot lid on the car is totally rotten, so picked one up from spuddy, literally has no rust at alllooks like new

Havent done much else lately as i have been working a crazy amount but i hope to get some of the welding done this week, paint the inner arches with black hammerite, convert it to wide track and get the coillies fitted, maybe

a cool pic of how she stands at the moment  :)

Been a while since I updated this! I removed the front wings and found that the inner arches had alot of rust, especially where the bonnet hinges bolt on, there was literally 1 bolt holding the bonnet in place  I knew there was alot of rust around the petrol flap but turned out to be worse then I thought when I stuck my finger through it  three big holes in the floor where the body work round the drainage plugs had rotted away, rust near the door shut on the nearside both front wings needed replacing due to rust and dents and pretty much every panel had a dint or two so to cut a long story short it was too much....well, more work then I wanted to take on so this happened...

It is now flat as a pancake in a metal salvage yard! My girlfriend has some pics on her camera of it on the high ab and then a 2 tonne metal weight being dropped on it, I will try and uploaded them over the weekend. So to all you mk2 golf owners, you are welcome, your car just got that bit rarer! :afro:
