going to change engine.
« on: 17 June 2012, 10:17 »
Hi guys, right I had my car re mapped on thurs and decided to take it for a burn down the a47, was so impressed with how different it felt all the way to 145mph, until the oil pressure light flashed and beeped at me, so I pulled off straight away but it was to late..the engine had heat seized :( so had to get towed home by a peugeot  306 gti6 :(  tried turning it over by the crank and its solid..won't budge one bit.  I love the golf though and instead of binning it and getting another I've decided its gna be cheaper to just get another agu lump and drop it in. I was just wondering if anyone has a guide or any info if they have done this before?? Thanks

think its going to be that your pickup pipe has blocked and by giving it a good thrash down your private race track killed it as it couldnt get oil around the engine quick enough. also if its starved the engine long enough what else could it have done?turbo could have been damaged too?
MK4 golf 1.8 turbo agu :)

I did think about the turbo as well actually, is there any ways of checking it off the car?

Swap is easy enough. Unbolt downpipe with 4 bolts, leave that loose behind engine.
remove pulley from power steering and undo 4 bolts on the pump - leave everything sealed.
Remove all wiring and put over to one side
Id take the shafts out with them sstill attached to the box, so undo the hub nut and 3 bolts on ball joint and swing struts out the way - shafts will hang down - undo 2x 13mm bolts on clutch cylinder and also the gear linkages, tuck up behind
support engine and undo all mount bolts
slide forward with front panel and rad off the car  engine is out....swap all the bits over onto new one
