Yeah, I know the one . . . . .

The lad before me in court got away with a petty punishment for his crime but thats another story in itself. The jist I got from my short time in there was that if you work, earn money and pay tax then you'll get bent over.

something ive been told is that if you think youve been cought, get a mate or someone whos insured to drive down that road in your car...

then if you get a letter through ask for the picture.. if its blury enough to not be able to make out which one of youse it is take it to court say that you arent sure which one it is as you both drove down that road in your car not long after each other but as its your car you will take points... its a worse offence to take points for someone else than it is to speed therefore noone gets points as they cant prove who it was.

or if you arent botherd about lying in court then dont get someone to drive your car and just get them to say they did.

how true this is i dont know but i remember talking to someone who said that theyve been cought speeding and used it and got away with it... not really much help to your question but hey ho.

It varies so much on whether they offer the course or not. But I wouldn't use lorry excuse, I was in court where a guy on a motorbike was caught speeding, by a policeman with the laser gun. The bloke was sticking to the limits but went 6mph to get round a lorry due to spray, photo showed it was wet road and raining, with the lorries spray. The magestrates wouldnt have any of it as he still broke the law even though he appealed against the decision. All in all it cost him many times more than it would of been to take the points and fine.

What is wrong with these people!? A very illegitimate and fair reason to go 6mph over the speed limit. A clear common sense malfunction with the courts there, feel sorry for that guy.

They probably saw it as why didn't he slow down a little to let the lorry get some distance between them then stay at the same pace as the lorry way back so he didn't get a face full of spray... :undecided:

Its the way I would look at it even though I am majorly against the current speed limits and enforcement techniques (far too low and far too greedy) as if you cant see for spray when behind the lorry, you cant see whats coming!

Yeah, some leniency wouldn't have gone amiss - IF / when I do get caught I hope it's not by much and leniency takes over

a) Goes both ways, but lets say the lorry was doing 45 in a 50 zone with two lanes, rather than stay back you could accelerate and go round him, in doing so you hit 56mph with the intent to then drop to 50.

Or

b) Do you fall back to 40 and only regain back to 45mph matching the lorries speed in front with now some distance between you?

I know I'd do "A", have done so on many roads, its a big national sign on a country road and there's some tw@t doing 50 opposed to the 60, for me to get round, doing 60 would be dangerous as most country roads don't have much straightness, so I'd hit 70, get past and drop to 60mph... But thats my view

I've done the speed awareness course- it lasted about 4 hours. Basically you meet a bunch of other speeders and tell each other what speed you were doing and why. Watch some videos highlighting the dangers of speeding in urban areas, and also some reaction time activities. There's a good video involving basketball which I won't spoil for you if you haven't seen it before.

Quite interesting really, and although I still find myself speeding on motorway/national roads from time to time, in the 20/30/40 zones I make a conscious effort to keep to them as this is where speeding does the most damage if you hit someone.
