mk3 gti no spark after changing engine

hi all ive just put 2ltr 8v gti in a cabrio shell changed loom from fuse board forwards and no spark ?
ive had a sparky with me helping and he wired loom in as he rebuilds vdubs ,but this one has him stumped
it turns over -we got a little reading on the clamp meter wen turned over ,
me im confused frustrated and got landlord on my back as car is in bits still on drive....
 so any help in this matter would be great ....  roy

Did you change the ECU with matched key chip and transponder from the donor? or maybe cranksensor probs

If above done, we're they from same donor car? Could  then check an clean all earth points, did donor run ok before? Prob should check vagcom on it as well, see of anything on that., and def check crank sensor as disruption may of ruptured cabling, it is very brittle on old sensors..

have a look under your distributor cap and make sure there is a rotor arm. Trust me, you never know with donor engines. Check all the basic things first.

ok all the loom and ecu came from diferent cars and rotor arm is thair ...does any body know how or even were i can get them maried up as im going to scrap the funking lot as its now causine marital stressssssssss
 every tuning place ive tryed say thay dont do pre 2000 or unless it a deisel turbo thay dont want to know

Thats what i was typing before you replied When you changed the ecu you have to match the immo box and chip in key or get the whole lot from a dona car immo box behind clocks

how do i match key with ecu then????have i to get emobilser or will the one ive got work wen match up is done

Some have used vag com or vag tacho I just went a got a ecu immo box and key for the chip it worked out cheaper:

Reply i got when i asked:
First I would find someone with vag-tacho to see if they can read the SKC from your immo box. As without this SKC recoding can't be done easily. If they can then just buy an ecu and recode with vag-com. Some mk3's won't let you read the SKC with vag-tacho and require some more specialist tools and I don't know many people who offer this service.

Another option is replace the ecu with one with the immobiliser defeated.
