RCD 510 and iPhone connection
« on: 11 June 2012, 09:41 »
Hi guys

I have a 2005 Golf and I have replaced the dismal RCD 300 with a RCD 510. I have the multi-function steering wheel with the call answer and end buttons ect, but I have never used them. I have an iPhone 4 (soon to be replaced by the upcoming iPhone 5 yeah boy) Anyway I was wondering what’s the easiest way of connecting my iPhone to the RCD 510 so that I can answer calls with the steering wheel buttons, and also play the music that is on my phone through the stereo. I know there are many factory options but I am guessing none of these were spec’d by the original owner. I am happy to undertake any cabling work myself as I have fitted many a car stereo in my day (hello flashy flip down Pioneer head unit in a clapped out rusty old Corsa, ahh first car love lol) and I fitted the RCD 510 myself along with the can bus unit (had a little help from a nice chap over in the MK6 section with the can bus and the VAG COM)

If it is only possible to connect the iPhone just so the music plays and the call answering function is a distant dream, then that is fine with me.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Throw the iphone in the bin and get an old Nokia that will connect everything.

I would say this is what you need.

the media-in interface is also mentioned in the RCD510 manual if not mistaken, i have the 510 on my gti, not owning an iphone but i know for sure it connects to an ipad so i am guessing you can also connect to iphone.
GTI MKVI, 5dr DSG, Candy White, Bi-Xenon, ACC, 18" Monza shadow, RCD510 w/Dynaudio, Sunroof, w/2 baby seats... and she's a beauty.
