I have realised that finding a mint Mk2 16v is almost impossible

So, I need to buy a tidy example and restore it. Can anyone help with specialists who can help

I live in West London so companies in and around the M25 would be good but happy to travel to find the right guys to restore to as good as new

Help welcomed in sourcing a starting point (once I find a car ).

Go to Halfords and buy all the Kurust on the shelf.

Go to your local college and do a course in welding.

Don't get tempted with the £160 coilover kits on ebay. Unless you just want to look at it going 60 mph on the drive...

The rest is up to you, your finances and the help you will get from here.

Good luck.

how mint do you want to go.

i got this daft idea of trying to get all the rust out of my mk2.      it will mean stripping the whole underside of the car with wire brushes,   then shot blasting the car inside and out,  then repairing any rot,  then shot blasting it again,   possibly acid dipping as well.

there is a few grand there.  very doable but expensive.    i recon my shell will take 100 hours to get right,  then 100-150 hours for the repaint.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

There's plenty of mint golfs around still,  but you will pay £10000 plus for one.  I know a guy who has bought most of the preformance cars of the last 30 years and keeps them in heated storage unit. M3 beemers, rs2 Audis, s1 rs escorts, mk1 gtis sierra cosworth rs500. He works on The modern price, ie new rs4 £60,000 his like new no mileage 1994 rs2 £ 60,000. People will pay to have there adolescent dream in there collection.

Sorry but you are looking for the easy way out....

There are PLENTY of nice cars out there if you can be bothered to get off your arse and go and find one... Yes it may mean travelling a few 100 miles to go and look & yes you may get lead up the garden path by people telling you it's the best thing since sliced bread arrived...

But you have to use your own judgement.... We on here aren't you personal shopping assistants

Eyes; are your market
Pocket; is your guide
Handshake; is your word...

Get off your arse and go and look at some... Then you will become a conisure of Mk2 Golf's....

and why that colour, much nicer ones out there.

why a 16v, much rare ones out there

and 11 weeks is now my record, Daily, twice daily, if not more checking of

ebay,
gumtree
autotrader
owners forums x LOTS
car & classic
freeads
trade it

to name but a few.

7pm onwards, every night.

and then you stumble on an unrestored, original, low mileage GEM.

and its a LOT rarer than an oak green 16v  :smug:
