Some pre-remap advice Mk4 20VT
« on: 09 June 2012, 14:05 »
Hi guys,

Ive got myself a MK4 golf with an AUM lump in it. I have been toying with the idea of remapping it, as it feels like it has more to give

Ive got around £300 to spend on it before the map, but im not sure what im going to be best spending this on.

So far all i've done is put a forge 008 valve on there and a pipercross filter, plus an N249 delete.

I have been thinking maybe a intercooler would help?

Pretty much my first time into tuning cars, and I dont want to turn up to the tuner only to have him say, oh you should of fitted XXX before coming.

Thanks in advance!

Get it properly checked for boost leaks, weak parts etc etc.  Dont spend money on upgrades until your car is fit and healthy

AFAIK the car is healthy. I have tested for boost leaks, changed the oil pickup pipe and other servicey bits

I have been looking into a FMIC today, and after having the bumper off it looks like a bit of a PITA.

Thinking of going for a turborevs SMIC?

It really depends what you want from your map, my AUM saw 205bhp & 245lb/ft with just a forge 007p & panel filter.

If your looking into a bigger SMIC or a FMIC then you may as well go a bit further and change the TIP, boost pipes and fit a larger bore exhaust

I would say smooth the air box and get a exhaust system
