Constant clutch slip
« on: 05 June 2012, 21:44 »
Help!

Just changed the engine in the mk4 diesel and all good!

Bled through the clutch and everything seemed ok, apart from
The biting point was right at the top.

It moved under it's own steam but as soon as you get to about 2500rpm the clutch slips. It also won't put any power down in anything above 2nd gear.

Will simply rebleeding sort or am I going to have to chuck in another clutch?

Cheers.

Sounds like you need to replace the clutch.

The new engine had a new one on there with loads of meat on it.

I am going to be pulling the box off and putting the old one back in to see if that helps.

Crank seal was fine - box wasn't damp at all.

Going to swap clutch and flywheel off the old engine today as I knew it worked.

Thanks for re affirming what I thought.

Sounds like one of the oil seals are gone, this happened to mines once.

Ah fixed it the next day by putting in my old clutch and flywheel off the other engine.

Think the guy had replaced the clutch, but not the flywheel - so loads of meat on the clutch, but not enough on the flywheel to engage.

Touchwood no problems since.
