Sump pickup - does it need attention like a Mk2

I keep reading about Mk2 owners cleaning their oil pickups. Does this also apply to Mk3 engines? Specifically the AGG.

Also - is this a VW design problem? I haven't heard of this problem since the Mk1 Cortina engine...

Yes.

With age the plastic baffle goes brittle and it chips off, and the bits end up getting caught in the mesh on the oil pick up. It's good practice getting the sump off every few years and clearing it.

this is a major issue on 1.8T engines too

iv always changed mine frequently, think the last one i got for mine (the S3 engine) was only about £7

sump of job to do tho, mines been off 4 times now due to hitting the ground, so i can do the job in around a hour

you should try it on the ssat.... you need to lower the front subframe to get the sump of!!
