The cams aren't that great to be honest as they only give you a visual display that they are coming up.

Unfortunately its not like the cams on the sat nav units Tom-Tom etc that play a sound so many yards before you approach them!!

Although I'm sure someone on this forum was working on that!!

The database for the PersonalPOIs has in the database structure details about direction and speed for POIs. This indicates that at some point the system may be able to warn you about POIs (such as speed cameras) as you approach them.

At this time there seems to be no indication that this data structure is nothing more than future proofing or indeed that it was created by a third party (Continental - the manufacturers) and most likely is not supported by the VW / VAG firmware.

Also, as others have pointed out, some countries prohibit the use of anything that warns you about speed cameras, so VAG might be a little wary of adding the feature in to their cars!

I'll take another look and see if I get anywhere ....

Here are the data options for each POI:
  • POI ID
  • SpeedLimit
  • Direction
  • TimeStamp
  • CameraType
  • FixtureStatus
  • SeverityRating

Currently this data table is empty. I will try and fill it with some real data, but don't hold out much hope, as I was unable to see any code within the firmware that actually made any calls to this table or the data within it.

Haven't checked it all to see the updates.

I am just back from a drive round Germany/France and noticed a new motorway section in France was not on the previous maps, it seems to be on this version.

I found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Golf-Passat-Polo-Rns510-Speed-Camera-Pois-R32-/280970180215?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item416b20b677the other day.

Don't know if anybody has any experience or views on this?

Guys,

Be careful with FW 4120 or 5218 as I've managed to brick a ver H RNS510.

I knew it was possible to brick so it was a risk I knowingly took. I was on 4020 previously which was fine.

There's hope that someone will come up with a way of getting it working again but at the mo it doesn't look great.

I think I'll need a replacement motherboard which I can probably get for less than £200 so not the end of the world but £200 I'd rather have in my pocket
