how hard is it to put some glue on an old vw badge and stick it to the bonnet?

Not very, but its a lot harder to cut one in as a vent.....

please tell me how most of that took the care and attention to detail that other people do to make there cars look good.

that's not really the point though. Maybe they do it because they think it looks good, not so others think they spent a lot of time doing it. I know I don't care what others think of my mk3, I do it all for me

oh you mean like stick some masking tape down. put the badge over it. strace out the shape inside the holes then cut them out with a grinder?
yeah must take ages 
must take care wile doing it not to scratch the paint tho
