Gearbox oil change

Do it.
Just done on my 16v and it feels like it has a few more horses.
160k on the clock and the gearbox oil was black.
One of the best 30 mins maintenance for your car. 17mm allen key or bolt with 2 litres of your favourite gearbox oil.

i'm worried to do mine. done it a few years ago to my pug 106 a lot of metal came out and then my gear box just didn't work... fun times lol.

You should have poured the metal back in

I just used standard ep 80/90 gear oil.

did you fill it the proper way or is there another way on the mk3 to make it quicker filling the gear box?

Jack the car up and take the passenger side wheel off, you'll see a plug on the end of the box that this tool fits into, and there's another on on the bottom of the box, undo the bottom one and drain all the oil out, put the bottom plug back in and then take the end one out and fill up the box thru this hole untill the oil starts coing back put of the endhole, when it does this there's the right amount of oil in, put the plug back in and then it's done

I think its one of those jobs that most people overlook but is actually a really cheap and easy way to look after your car and save money in the future.
