Personal opinion - Use Castrol syntrans (recently changed name to or from syntrax) Its a fully synthetic and i has worked wonders in my passat, syncros went from being almost unusable in the cold, to almost perfect changes, Very good for older boxes with stiff syncros. Pricey though £12 per bottle ish.
