"Apropos of nothing in particular, but if you ever drive through Liverpool, you'll notice that their recycling bins are a violent purple. Nowhere else has bins this colour.
The reason why?
Apparently, the council committee were split over having them blue or having them red. The Everton fans on the committee said 'red ones won't get used down our way' and the Liverpool fans said 'blue ones won't get used down our way'. Yet they both wouldn't budge on having their representative colours used. (You'd have though that a green bin would be better, but this is Liverpool and logic goes out of the window.)
The impasse was broken when some bright spark said 'you can have red AND blue'. Hence the violent purple bins."
