I've got a summer to do list for the car, which includes a lot of bodywork as it's looking very tired and there's a few bits of rust starting to appear.
I'll get pics up when I can.
1. There's a section of lacquer peel on the rood near the rain gutter. It's about the size of a 50p and a 20p put side by side. What's the best way to sort this out? Sand down, primer, paint and lacquer?
2. On the driver's door on the edge of the non hinge side, the bit that always hits walls etc, the paint has been chipped well off and there's some rust starting to appear. I'm I right in thinking sanding, primer, paint and lacquer? Same as above?
3. On the rear quarter panel there's 2 deep scratches with a tiny spot of rust at the deepest point. What the best way to treat these? I'm going to need a tad of filler for this scratch, as I said it's deep, around 1mm deep or so.
4. On the tailgate, where the plastic light and number plate surround meets the metal there's some paint chipped off and a hint of rust starting to bubble up. Again, is it sanding the area, primer, paint and lacquer?
5. Roof again, a small bubble of rust. Sand, prime, paint, lacquer?
6. Front bumper has some scratches on the side. For plastic, what's the best way to sort it? Same as metal? (Sanding, primer, paint, lacquer?).
7. What's the best way to make sure paint blends in with the original paint around it?
8. What sandpaper is best for a) Metal b) Plastic?
9. Best place to get the paint in a spray can? Paint is Mystic Blue LC5L. Better from Halfords or straight from VW (which is pretty expensive from what I remember).
It's the first time I'll be undertaking any work with the paintwork so I'm pretty scared of messing it up and making it look like pants with it not blending etc.
Cheers!
