with the engine running and up to temp is there any water coming back into the header tank via the small top pipe?

good point.
 
a new belt is only about fifteen pounds, but the labour for a new pump is the same as having your belt done anyways. about 250 to 300 all in.  :sick:

just an easy way to see if there's any water circulating  :wink:

My mother in laws partner had the same problem with his XK8, plastic impeller had gone on that too  :rolleyes:

See if there's a TPS nearby. They'll be less than VW for the same parts  :smiley:
