Re: CJA's Golf MK3 GTI 20vt Project. Update!

okay so been busy busy finnishing this off now. Had a list as long my arm of small niggles etc that needed sorted

Was having a problem getting coolant to circulate properly, found my pipes for heater matrix were kinked where whoever removed the engine had put clamps on the hoses and had stayed on the hoses too long making them mis shaped.

Also the long metal coolant pipe that gos around the block sprung a pin hole leak... VW wanted £120 for the pipe!!! Trip to scrapyard and got new matrix pipes, the metal pipe and loadsa other crap for £15 off a sorry looking A3

Pipe didnt look much better than mine, smothered it in chemical metal as its hidden by the manifold plumbed it all in and coolant now circulating perfectly

Was frustrating taking it all to bits again however....

Battery wasnt charging, pritty easy fix. Found a broken wire in the harness to the battery

Speedo's not working, swapped in a new sensor now alll good

Fan wasn't cutting in, found a mangled pin in the plug so again not too bad.

Second hand ABF starter i got from Bay advertised as in perfect working condition was noisey from the very first time i turned it over... Died a death yesterday and started crunching etc also...

Took it to bits

Maybe not too clear but in middle is one of the magnets that sits on the inside of the casing, had decided it didnt like it there anymore and was rumbling around in the rotor. Cleaned out the solenoid on the starter and freed it off, then got the 20vt starter and robbed bits off that. Luckily the casing is the same size/dimensions/no. of magnets. So built a decent starter thats not noisey at all now outa two of them

New wing

Had no dash lights at all, milage and MFA were working, but as soon as you turned ign on whole lot turned off and didnt want to work. Checked all my engine earths etc, all okay. Found that pins 3 + 5 are earths for the clocks to the fuseboard, for some reason they had become disturbed somehow. Pulled the wires out of the chocolate blocks that go to fusebox and earthed the wires to the steering column. All good, clocks working a treat

Flushed the oil, new filter and decent oil and new fuel filter also

Last problem iv got, maybe someone could shine some light on it if possibly?  The N75 valve is noisey, after about 30 sec idling starts chapping and sounds almost tappety. Gets steadily louder and faster. Give it a bit of throttle then it goes away but comes back again after 20/30secs.

There is a fault for N75 last time i checked codes, but i assumed that was just due to unplugging etc when had imob fault. Boost pipes are on the correct way, and iv tried another N75 with the same part no. and end code letter C on both of them but both seem to do the same thing. Any ideas would be great cheers

Sorted most of my problems now  Just afew wee niggles.....

Got her back on the ramp and waxoiled it to death!!!

No rust, and solid underneath. Hopefully keep it that way for a bit!!

Power steering pipe burst today though, was a risk as new they looked bad when had engine out. But hey-ho, nevermid....

Thats the old ones, VW wanted as near £400 for them both... So gonna take them to local hydraulic place and see if can cut the rot out and make me a high pressure pipe with hose and the old connectors!

Cars booked into paint this friday, getting full re-spray. Pritty giddy about it, not gonna lie haha!!!!
