Thanks Guys.

Howzit bru, nice cars  You've got some cojones having cars like that in Jozi  Mind you, I imagine those engines won't fit in the taxis

Thanks Jay. These motors definitely not for taxis.
Jozi's  not that bad. Depends where in Jozi you are though.

Being from SA, how credible do you think this story is?

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks Jord_GTI

For the other African countries maybe. As their importing laws are less restrictive. So importing cars to those countries are much easier and cheaper.

However importing rules and regulations in South Africa are very difficult to get around. So it is near impossible to import a car. However if you are a SA citizen returning to SA and have being working/staying in the uk and owning the vehicle from a minimum of 6months, you can apply for the import permits etc and then it is legal and easy.

With that said, the statements regarding car prices in South Africa compared to the UK is true.

The mk6 R20 costs around ZAR470K which equates to approximately GBP37000.
The mk5 R32 costs around ZAR280K which equates to approximately GBP22000.

Now the MK5 R32 in the UK can be purchased for half that price or even less. And imported to South Africa way cheaper than buying one here and it will have the uniqueness of being a 2 door.

We pay R200K to R120K for a mk5 GTI were as on your side its approx. 5000 pounds.
MK4 gti’s we pay anything from R50K to 120K
Mk3 gti’s we pay anything from R20K to R80K
Mk2 gtis if you can find a good example from 20K upwards.
Mk1 gtis cannot find any…
