Best engine flush for 1.8T?
« on: 01 May 2012, 22:21 »
Might sound like a stupid question but I really want to look after this motor, I plan on (if i can) only use super fuel and service her every 6 months, With every oil change I want to do a full engine flush,  just because I have OCD like that. My problem is is there one for turbo engines? hich brabds should i stay away from I dont care about the cost, just want the best for my beauty :D

Waste of money seeing as you get little benefit.
The engine is designed to run on 95 octane fuel and isn't designed to take advantage of the knock resistance of higher octane fuel (if kept standard), and every now and again a shot of injector cleaner will make up for any 'special' additives.

If you get it mapped, you'll probably need to run it on higher octane fuel.

There are audi approved flushes which we use in the workshop if needs be for say oil contamination etc.
you will only run into problems if you haven't changed your oil for such a long time then all the bits of crap are broken up and then could get blocked in your pick up pipe and then carry on a problem to the pump. (this is what can happen with 1.8ts  by not changing the oil at intervals you can suddenly find the oil light on and bottom end noise.)

I have used a flush but i replaced the pick up pipe straight after and cleaned out the sump.

so a flush should be fine, like i said as long as it isn't way over due then you shouldn't cause yourself a problem.

I would reconmend changing the oil pick up pipe, and fitting a a magnetic sump plug along with regular oil changes with synthetic oil you won't go wrong.

Rather then using engine flush just buy some cheaper oil or just whatever you normaly use and after emptyinh your current oil fill it with the new stuff run it for a couple of days and then drain the oil again (leaving it to drain over night if possible) and maybe add a little when its still draining just to get rid of the crap in the bottom and then fill as normal.

i would still use v power as there may not be the biggest benefit until mapped but there is still benefit but it is also the best quality fuel as it is picked by shell from what they refine and not just "the bottom of the barrel cr*p that the supermarkets buy from them after they have had the good stuff.

as regards to fuel, when running 99 on standard car for this market it will be mapped to run on 95 so you won't get any gains untill its mapped when your telling the ecu to make use of better quality fuel such as 99. you can still take the gains of shell v power with its quality and addictives to help clean the valves etc over a very long period time of continue use if you don't mind spending the money. my only advise is don't use the crappy supermarket fuels. tescos own fuel is fine though. they're 99 momentum gave me the most torque. just low sulphor ones such as asda, sainsburys, jet, morrisions aren't what i would personally use unless i had to.
