1.8t planning to Decat - remap or no remap????
« on: 28 April 2012, 21:01 »
Any advice on if I need a remap once I decat my car?? Running stage 2 remap which was on when I got the car, runnin around 20-22psi but after investigation because of the boost hitting 36psi constantly found the flexi pipe on the cat is goosed so opted to decat for some extra horses!! Has anyone done this with or without remap if so what's your thoughts???

its got a stage 2 map but still a stock cat?

there isn't a 2nd o2 sensor on the AGUs so you dont need to remap it again or alter any code but there may be some more gains to be had to suit the increase in flow depending on how hard the turbo is already working with the current tune

It's had loads of mods done before I got it, the problem being they were done before the person I bought it off had it, little did I know the person I got it off was a "mechanic" so there's some bodging done for him to sell it so basically I'm repairing and replacing bits he has done. The flexi pipe is shot and the milltek centre section has been mild steel welded on a stainless steel system. It's only run one day on the 22 psi and been perfect before other problems showed up. In a nutshell it's a nightmare!!! Getting there just needed to know about the remap so thanks for heads up mate!

might want to have a look around the N75 in relation to that boost issue by the way

the solenoid itself, the wiring to it or the thin hose that comes out the top of it

Is it true you unplug these to see if it's faulty?? I've checked all the pipe work about 5 times and found nothing, it only is a problem with torque on ie when I'm driving, cruising along its sitting at 15psi constantly then when u hit the accelerator it tops out at 36 psi !!

you unplug it to see what its like with no actuator control, wont necessarily tell you the part is faulty

Had it on vag.com and there was no faults came up regarding the n75 could it still be faulty without this showing up. I was only told at the weekend it was the flexi pipe on the cat that's goosed so giving no back pressure meaning the wastegate was staying open all the time.

if i remember right you'll only get some sort of circuit/signal failure show up as a fault code. the home-made way to test if the mechanical parts are doing their job is the suck-blow test  i can never remember which one of the ports is supposed to be air tight.
