Airbag Light

Just popped to the local shop....and noticed the airbag light didnt go off?
Any ideas???

It will be a faulty sensor. Need to get it sorted as any warning light is a MOT failure now as stated above.

I tried. And tried. And failed...

...To get the airbag light on my previous Primera sorted. So I have done a bit of research on the subject and can offer an opinion.

Usually an airbag light that suddenly starts to change behaviour will be down to a loose connection. Those connections that get moved and come loose are below the seats. Find them and clean them with switch cleaner (or WD40). Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Regarding the MOT, since 6-4-12 an airbag light must illuminate for the diagnostic stage (normally abut 7 seconds) and then go out. Failure to illuminate, failure to go out or illumination leading to a flashing sequence are now reasons to fail an MOT.

I don't know about the VW ECUs but the Primera was pretty good about forgetting a previous fault. If it did latch one, there was a sequence of switching the ignition on and off that reset the memory and cleared it.

I hope you don't see it again. If you do, I hope you have better luck than I did. (I had to sell mine in the end).

last MOT it was the abs pump........now my mot is due again in 4 weeks and the airbag light has issues.....typical....

i expect A LOT of people will have issue with the air bay light these days.. only takes hoovering under the seats to knock a connection, in the past people weren't to bothered about it but now its an MOT issue i expect a fair few people will be paying out loads for there cars to be scan etc etc.

I don`t know the point of taking it to the shop,just buy a VAG cable and hooh it up to your laptop,it will probably cost the same as a scan, and you can use it again if you ever get the same problem http://www.ebay.com/itm/380181420223?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 .

just a word of warning, that i probably bore people with by now but i will repeat it all the same

you run the risk of damaging the airbag controller if you attempt to communicate with it using ebay cables.
