So you already have a golf 1.8t? What engine is it? You could go down the simple way which I have on my daily and it's awesome..

K04-001 turbo (straight fit ment)
Saab injectors
3" turbo back exhaust
Front mount
007 diverter
3" MAF
3" TIP
Cc tuning custom map

Goes really well.. I've also got a meth injection kit to fit so should be even better after that

BAM AMK both both forge bottom ends and cranks big injectors but have VVT.. Or if on a budget.. And my prefferd pne..AGU they have forge bottom end and bigger valves smaller turbo than the other two but can soon be changed

All the 1.8t have the same size valves although the exhaust valves on the Bam are made of inferior material. It's only the inlet ports and valve throats which are enlarged on the agu.

For 300bhp you may be better off on an aum, it will give a better power band and torque than on the agu, what's more you won't be near the limit of flow capability for the small port head don't worry. Although a few my mates run over 300bhp and similar torque on a standard aum/auq you may like other 1.8t owners just want to drop in forged rods and sleep easy. As you already have an electronic throttle body you want to stick to a 1.8t with an electronic throttle body (me7.5 management) it's a more straight forward conversion and much nicer to map than the me3 counterpart

You should go for Bam or Aum but you do pay a premium for the Bam, Bam pistons are slightly lower compression so will be nice if your sticking to small turbo for the 300bhp and will make the mappers life that much easier but generally speaking if all you want is 300 bhp you will have enough headroom on the higher compression Aum pistons. Naturally the higher compression pistons of the aum are nice if you decide to go for a slightly larger turbo, you will find that the higher compression pistons reduce transient lag.

I need to get it on some difrent rollers.. The chassis kept touching the floor when lowering it down on the rollers.. Pluss by the time he got the Saab Injectors mapped in he said I was running really hot..

But.. It got 210bhp and 249 lbsft holds the torque through most of the revs.. Pulls really well quicker than my mates scoob and mate mk1 focus rs and his is running 240

Really impressed with it.. Was gutted about the figures but when I drove it it soon changed.. Feels awesome, like I said I've still got the meth kit to fit yet also :)

Buy a car with 300bhp or a MK4 with a 1.8T

A few years ago, a conversion would be a cheap way of doing things but you can pick up MK4's for so little these days its not worth it.

Add to the fact you'll need literally EVERYTHING from the front end of the 1.8T from driveshafts, to hubs, anti-roll bar, coolant pipes etc etc

My mate Dai converted his 2.0 and needed all the above plus more.  He was lucky in that he bought a donor vehicle, was handy with a spanner or two, and had a couple of people to help out   He made a few quid by breaking the donor vehicle.

Converting a 1.6 will be just as hard, if not harder and is not worth the hassle IMO
