I can confirm - that VW never released any mk1 cabs from the 1980-1993 with power steering that was RHD - only the US LHD Mk1 cabs had power steering. TSR provide a kit to convert you MK1 cab to power steering but it's £1100 in total for all parts.
If you have 13 or 14" wheels on a cab you will only notice the difference when the car is stopped - while driving the steering is very light - with 15" or wider wheels on the cabs - the steering is heavy - but then again it depends on what your use too..
I've got 15" and 14" on my cabs and I don't really notice the heavy steering - then again I do have large arms..

What everyone else said about PAS not being on RHD cabs !
The only time you need PAS is when you are parking in tight spots and it can take a bit of manouvering at times, but other than that I dont miss it. Just buy your wife a cabby, she'll love it when the suns out and she's posing, I promise
Dont worry too much about PAS as women cant park even when they have it !
