Cold Air Feed [Fitted with pics]

I am currently running a 'smoothed' airbox with pipercross panel filter, and i do not plan to change to a cone filter EVER...

I don't like the design of the standard air feed from behind the headlight, as i can't imagine that it is being supplied with lots of air. Now some people have opted for the R32 DSG intake mod, but this still sucks up air from behind the headlight!

I have decided that i am going to remove the snorkel altogether, and run a cold air feed flexi pipe down to the front passenger grill, where it will get an increased flow of air. This leads me onto the main question, will a 3" pipe fit down the side of the battery and down to the front bumper? It's just that 2" pipes seem far to small for my liking

Nothing fancy, but THIS is the cold air feed that i was planning on getting (provided it will fit).

Yes 3" will just about fit, I managed to get it fitted to mine all ok

If you change you mind on the cone filter idea I am selling a kit with surround.

I like the OEM look, which is why i'm keeping my airbox, but i'm just trying to make it more effective. Thanks for the offer though

im running 3" flex tube, from front lower grill to my cone filter that sits next to the battery.

no point cooling the air before it gets majour heated up by the turbo. cool it after the turbo

The emphasis is on increasing air flow! The standard setup is hardly efficient! If it was really that good, do you think that Volkswagen would have changed the setup?! Modern VAG engines have the air intake at the front of the engine, directly between where the bonnet meets the front grill, giving it plenty of air flow. This to me, makes much more sense than being hidden BEHIND a headlight!

the air doesnt need a pipe to get to it, you remove that cover from the headlight where the intake plastic pipe lives and meets to the airbox you then have loads more space from down from the front bumper grills (thinking my r32 for eg) it doesn't need a pipe to reach there as theres's plenty of space to get through anyway. when i had my standard airbox and didn't have the intake pipe made no difference when i had mapped. look at all the decent turbo set ups on any car, thinking of big jap stuff for example and all the power they run. they have no silly snorkel pointing at it. take an rx7 single turbo i saw the other day, the air filter was clipped onto the face of the induction compressor on the turbo, and didn't worry about a plastic pipe feed lol to it lol and the power that makes.

well that's my theory mate, everyone has their own. just offering my opinion as well as other people have by all means do the above if you wish, people do seem to do it on the forums works for them. having an air intake for direct airflow isn't exactly going to lose you power by any means or anything no worse off than without one, but my view is that it doesn't do a huge difference.
