Urgent help needed with throttle body
« on: 22 April 2012, 12:28 »
Help please.  Not with my golf but with my mk1 mx5.

I was cleaning the throttle body with a spray and the plastic straw shot off into the intake!!

I cant see it.  I have tried a long thing with sticky tape on the end and a hoover but nothing!

Whats the worse that could happen if i started the car??

How long was the 'straw' you need to figure out if its short enough to of made its way  down one of the runners!?

How ever having helped turbo a mk1 mx5 myself I know that taking the inlet manifold off is a very easy and doesnt take long atall

you'd be an idiot to leave it in there

Its like the straws you get with a can of wd40.

Should my local garage be able to get the inlet manifold off quite easily then?

Personally I would of said that there wouldnt of been enough room in the plenum for the straw to of turned 90degrees and headed down a runner.

I assume youve shon a torch down there to have a look?

*Take your throttle body off, 4 bolts on each corner from what I remember!
*Get a torch and have a look, chances are youl see it laying in the plenum

average hourly rate of a mechanic: £36.00 p/hour

Average price of a haynes manualo: £18.00

For everything else, theres Golfgti.co.uk

in other words, go get yourself a haynes manual for your car, and follow the instructions on there to take your inlet manifold of and save yourself some coin in the short, and the long run!

Stop being such a girl driving an MX5, and just go for a good run in it to see what happens!  :lipsrsealed:

All sorted!!

Have a manual but had to work today.

Local mechanic got the throttle body off and was able to see it and retrieve with a long thing with sticky tape on the end.

And as my mechanic said "don't do it with a f@@king straw again!"

Cheers for people's input
