how do i remove the green cover to reveal the timing mark

as my cars not starting i thought i should check my timing, set it to TDC and checked the timing mark under the plug and its nowhere to be seen :S can any1 tell me how to take the green cover off please so i can have a proper look, i dont have the proper tool to take it off so any alternative methods would be great lol

If you mean the green cover on the end of the box then DO NOT REMOVE !!.

You need the plastic plug on top of the box,near to where it joins the engine

i mean the cover that covers the bit to see the timing mark, theres a white plug on top and a green screw out bit

just pull the plastic bit on top of the box

the white bit just pops off but the green bit seems to screw in n i dont want to break it lol

You dont need to take the green part out. take the clear/white part and you should see it on the flywheel.

Timing marks on the belt side are way more important to check

Regarding the timing belt, you only need the timing marks on the belt side,  the marks on the flywheel are for ignition timing or finding TDC for other reasons.  If its all lined up on the belt side, the flywheel also be lined up.

use the flywheel marks - I find the timing marks on the cogs vague at best, first attempt doing it with the cog markers was way out.

ok so i was out today checking my timing and im abit confused, i have the letters on the top wheel with the white mark on the inside, but as i was turning the wheel i noticed theres a 2nd white mark on the opposite side with a circle mark on the outer edge, which 1 should i go by?
also when you turn the engine by hand should it turn smooth or stop after every cylinder? if that makes sense?
