Jesus, are you serious ??THIS IS NORMAL, try turning your wheel to one side and check the top plate again, it will be AT AN ANGLE, and the space is made so that the top plate doesnt rub on the body while turning !!If you think your strut mount if bad because of that, then ALL VW from the dealer come with bad strut mount then..
It is normal for the suspension to drop down when the car is lifted. Remember that it will drop down the same distance there is from the top mount plate to the top of the suspension turret.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxbH24wpqVgCheck this video out.
