Volksbits door handles and safety plates
« on: 03 June 2005, 21:01 »
Hi guys

Are Volksbits handles proper VW handles or copies? What i'm really after are some that don't get so worn looking (after 17 years I suppose they would but still)

Also as i'll be replacing the handles I was thinking of adding the Volksbits safety plates, are they worth getting?
Seen a few pics of them but not up close and they look ok.
James

look like originals to me but id say email them and ask unless someone here has purchased them as for the plates for the doors there a brilliant idea even if they look awful as they stop some idiot opening your door with a screw driver in 5 seconds flat.

I'd recommend door plates, not necessarily from volksbits but in general, I found out the hard way as to why they are a good idea.
......now officially dubless.

Think you'll find they Volksbits ones are copies..

You can buy some OEM ones from VW classic in Germany... But they aren't cheap...

TPS have genuine in stock, about £30 each IIRC (9 months ago)

if you cant afford new genuine ones then head over to a scrappy/breakers as the genuine ones simply last and work straight away. Pattern ones are cheap for a reason. The trigger mechanism wears out within 6 months so you cant open the door. Oh and they snap if someone pry's them with a screwdriver. plus the lock barrel disintegrates if someone jams a screwdriver in it. AVOID!

Again like Gibby I found out the hard way. Use genuine handles and armour plates (any make plates will do)

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I had one snap on me when opening a door...

If I get any Chinese ones now they go straight in the BIN!!

Not a lover of armour plates but do understand why peeps use them...
